Position Overview:The Senior Grower Accountant will be responsible for overseeing financial activities related to crop production and growing operations. This role requires a strong understanding of agricultural accounting principles, crop costing, and operational finance. The ideal candidate will have previous experience in agricultural accounting or related roles and a passion for driving efficiency and profitability in farming operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage all aspects of financial accounting and reporting for crop production and growing activities, including budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
Develop and maintain cost accounting methodologies to track and analyze production costs, crop yields, and operational expenses.
Collaborate with farm managers, agronomists, and other stakeholders to develop annual operating budgets and crop plans.
Analyze and interpret financial data to identify trends, opportunities for cost savings, and areas for operational improvement.
Prepare and present financial reports and analysis to senior management and stakeholders to support decision-making and strategic planning.
Ensure compliance with industry regulations, tax laws, and internal controls related to crop production and agricultural operations.
Conduct internal audits and reviews of growing processes and controls to identify risks and implement best practices.
Provide financial guidance and support to farm management teams on budgeting, forecasting, and cost management.
Assist in the implementation of accounting systems, tools, and processes to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.
Stay informed about industry trends, market dynamics, and emerging technologies in agriculture and crop production.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Agriculture, or related field required; CPA or CMA designation preferred.
5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with a focus on agricultural or farming operations.
Strong understanding of agricultural accounting principles, financial reporting standards (GAAP), and cost accounting methodologies.
Experience working with farming software and ERP systems (e.g., AgriSight, Granular, FarmLogs) preferred.
Knowledge of crop production processes, agronomy, and agricultural regulations.
Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and provide actionable insights.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a focus on accuracy and quality.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
