Group Systems Integration Engineer

My client is an international specialist in the subsea environment. They design, engineer and manufacture technologies that enable customers to discover, navigate, measure, detect and communicate in the toughest environment on earth: Our oceans.

Purpose of the role

To lead integration and support activities focussed on Group integrated products. You will create support networks within each operating companies Technology Services divisions and be the focal point for integration, commissioning, training and demonstration of strategic Group integrations.

Travel required

Estimated 12 trips a year for short durations, typically one week, to predominantly onshore, internal and customer, integration and trials sites. Longer duration offshore trips of around 2 weeks may be required.

The Role and Role Specific Competencies

Be the focal point for strategic Group system integrations and operations utilising supplied sensing, software and testing platforms in both the subsea and surface vehicle sectors.
Attend customer and internal integration sites, leading integration, commissioning, training, demonstrations and industry/marketing activities as necessary.
Develop a support network for Group integrated solutions with Applications and Support operatives within the sister companies, enabling long duration support activities to be undertaken with remote support provided.
Provide onshore hardware, software and survey operational support to core business and internal customers by responding to email/telephone support calls. This would involve both reactive and proactive support. Reactive support would involve dealing with immediate problems encountered by customers, solving the problems as the expert in the specific integrated system along with escalating to the appropriate personnel as necessary. Proactive support would involve understanding customer's requirements, reviewing their current systems identifying deficiencies and recommending improvements.
Demonstratable experience in a range of underwater survey and inspection systems including positioning, communication, navigation/INS and imaging solutions. Experience in 3D reconstructed point cloud data from sonar and imaging systems is highly desirable.
Be experienced in leading offshore survey operations at a Party Chief and/or Senior Survey Engineer level, including, project management, reporting and data delivery activities.
To provide offshore equipment and survey support to customers, either as an INS /acoustic operator and/or supporting related systems in a problem solving capacity. This would involve advice and guidance regarding operational procedures, vessel visits/direct support of customer operations, explanation of findings and liaison with group companies Senior Engineers and Surveyors to ensure maximum levels of customer satisfaction.
To produce a wide variety of written reports including the results of site visits / testing, details of customer visits, technical guidance notes, training materials and to aid group companies Senior Engineers and Surveyors in the development of workshops and white papers.
To communicate feedback to group company departments such as the Engineering Department, Software Development and Global Business Managers. This would cover operational system problems, product/system refinements and potential business opportunities gleaned through direct contact with customers during learning events and onshore/offshore activities.
To establish and maintain strong working relationships with internal staff across the international regional offices and group, Systems Test, Engineering, Business Development, Direct Sales, Training and Customer Support promoting a collaborative working style.
To keep up to date with the in-house technology and product advances, commercial processes/procedures and Company structure/initiatives to ensure knowledgeable discussion with customers and enable efficient progressing of operational issues.
To enhance the reputation and profile of Operating Companies, promoting the company name, brand and capabilities through supporting at scheduled marketing activities, contacts with trade organisations and active participation in industry/market related events including contributions to publications and presentation of conference papers etc

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

Essential

Experience of providing first line technical support in either survey or offshore related engineering environment.
Experience in delivering Offshore Survey and Inspection projects at a Senior level
Ability of developing and generating written technical support material, white papers, reports etc.
Technical curiosity and strong history of problem solving

Desirable

Operational knowledge of client or third party LBL/USBL/INS products and systems, product applications and detailed performance parameters would be an advantage.
Understanding of Fusion and Ranger systems would be desirable
A knowledge of offshore positioning systems and software would be desirable
Technical knowledge of Survey Systems integrations including, but not limited to, electrical and data communications interfaces, protocols and fault finding of common issues
Operational knowledge of Laser and Multibeam surveys and data processing
Project management experience in an onshore or offshore capacity related to hydrographic survey

Essential Qualifications

Degree level or equivalent qualification in a related discipline such as hydrographic surveying, geomatics or electronics, or equivalent work experience.
